The Black Appalachian Coalition (BLAC) aims to bring forward Black people in the region as leaders, credible messengers, and experts. Their very presence in public conversations can begin to shift fundamental narratives about Appalachia. BLAC is proud to welcome the foremost scholar of Black life in Appalachia, Dr. William H. Turner. He will read from his new book, The Harlan Renaissance, and speak to the importance of Black voices in the fight for the region’s future.
